Losing weight can be an extremely difficult process, which is why many people who are trying desperately turn to a variety of diet products to help them reach their weight loss goals. However, the truth is that many of those diet products may actually be preventing you from losing those excess kilos, and may even contribute to weight gain.
Various diet products contain high levels of sodium, which can cause water retention and makes your body think it’s getting sugar when it doesn’t, which can result in increased hunger. Diet products contain artificial sweeteners and many people turn to them as a substitute to sugary drinks and foods.
Artificial Sweeteners and Weight Loss
Studies suggest that artificial sweeteners do not aid weight loss for most people. In fact, the chemicals in some artificial sweeteners may actually wreak havoc on your hormones triggering hunger hormones and increasing rather than decreasing appetite. Increased hunger results in hunger pangs that can be difficult to ignore resulting in increased food consumption and actual weight gain.
Artificial Sweeteners and their Effect on your Health
In addition to not aiding weight loss, studies also show that artificial sweeteners can have extremely negative effects on your health. These sweeteners have been linked to such conditions as:
• Severe headaches
• Arthritis (or exacerbation of arthritis symptoms)
• Feelings of anxiety
• Vision difficulties
• Heart palpitations
• Chronic fatigue syndrome
• and even brain tumors
Let’s take a look at some of these artificial sweeteners and what toxins they may contain.
Found in Splenda was actually discovered when researching new insecticides. It contains chlorine, which is a known carcinogen. You may also be interested to know that there have been no long-range studies done on the possible side effects of Sucralose, yet it has managed to win FDA approval.
Found in artificial sweeteners such as equal and Nutrasweet has been linked to such conditions as brain tumors, mental retardation, birth defects, epilepsy and diabetes. In fact, this substance has been considered so dangerous that pilots for the United States air force have been warned not to consume Aspartame in any amount no matter how small!
An artificial sweetener ingredient that contains methylene chloride another known carcinogen.
Sadly, these artificial sugars are not just found in diet soft drinks or in packets to be used in place of table sugar, but may appear in a number of different diet foods especially low calorie desserts and yoghurts. Making a wide variety of diet foods toxic to your overall health.
